  1. Knitting household articles
    40 min · 1 practice tasks · quiz
Knitting makes fabric with two needles. Grade 7 aims at a scarf, mat, table wiper, tool bag or gloves.
  2. Needles, yarn and safety
    40 min · 1 practice tasks · quiz
Pair of needles, yarn you own, points down, no running, count tools home. Integrity: do not waste or steal yarn.
  3. Identify the knit stitch
    40 min · 1 practice tasks · quiz
The knit stitch shows as Vs on the front of the fabric. Find it on a sample, clip or print before making one.
  4. Identify the purl stitch
    40 min · 1 practice tasks · quiz
Purl shows as bumps. Rib mixes knit and purl. Find both on a cuff or sample.
  5. Casting on
    40 min · 1 practice tasks · quiz
Cast on a counted row of loops that are not too tight. That row is the foundation of the article.
  6. Practise the knit stitch
    40 min · 1 practice tasks · quiz
Knit row after row, counting so the work stays a rectangle, not a triangle of dropped stitches.
  7. Practise purl and rib
    40 min · 1 practice tasks · quiz
Purl with yarn in front. Try knit-one purl-one rib for a cuff or bag mouth once knit is stable.
  8. Casting off
    40 min · 1 practice tasks · quiz
Bind off so the last row cannot ladder. Leave a tail to sew a bag. Do not slide live stitches off.
  9. Knit a household article
    40 min · 1 practice tasks · quiz
Finish one article: scarf, table wiper, mat or tool bag. Gloves only if stitches are already even.
  10. Display knitted work
    40 min · 1 practice tasks · quiz
Display the articles, name knit and purl, and embrace using them at home or in 4K.
